What is Space Daily?
Space Daily is a native iOS application designed for space enthusiasts. It delivers NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) with professional descriptions, live Mars rover feeds from Curiosity and Perseverance, Home Screen widgets, and offline favorites.
How often is the Astronomy Picture updated?
NASA updates the Astronomy Picture of the Day once every 24 hours (usually around midnight US Eastern Time). Space Daily automatically fetches the latest image and details upon opening the app.
How do I add Space Daily widgets to my Home Screen?
1. On your iPhone Home Screen, touch and hold any empty area until the apps jiggle.
2. Tap the (+) button in the upper-left corner.
3. Search for Space Daily, select your preferred widget size (Small or Medium), and tap Add Widget.

How does offline mode and Favorites work?
When you tap the Favorite (heart) button on any APOD or Mars rover photo, the high-resolution image and complete metadata are saved directly to your device storage. You can view your saved collection anytime without an active internet connection.
Do I need a NASA API Key?
No. Space Daily works out of the box with default access. However, if you frequently browse extensive Mars imagery archives, you can optionally obtain a free personal API key from api.nasa.gov and enter it in the app's Settings tab for higher hourly request limits.
Troubleshooting & Tips
- Image failed to load: Verify your internet connection or Wi-Fi. If NASA servers are momentarily busy, pull down to refresh the screen.
- Widget not updating: iOS manages widget refresh intervals automatically to conserve battery life. Opening the app will trigger an immediate widget cache update.
- Save to Photos permission: If saving an image fails, go to iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Photos > Space Daily and ensure photo adding access is enabled.
